Rumor has it that Noah
Wyle, who plays earnest doctor John Carter on ER, will be the
next to exit that NBC show. True?
Katie Johnson Milwaukee
False. Wyle, 29, is under contract for two more seasons -- and let's hope
he gets more engaging storylines than last season's post-trauma
drug addiction. His Dr. Carter could use a lasting romance, along
the lines of Wyle's real-life passion for Tracy Yarbin, the makeup
artist he married in May. The couple, who live on Bo Derek's former
ranch near L.A., have been together virtually since the day they
met four years ago while working on an independent film, The
Myth of Fingerprints. What is Minnie Driver's
next movie?
Joann McCord, Plymouth, Mich.
The English actress plays an American woman obsessed with beauty
pageants in Sally Field's Beautiful, due sometime this fall. Driver,
who has a track record of dating her leading men -- John Cusack,
Matt Damon, Josh Brolin -- found no boyfriends on this movie. Just
the little Pepsi girl, Hallie Kate Eisenberg, and the resurfacing
Kathleen Turner. Driver, 29, still dates Brolin, son of former Hotel
and Pensacola Wings star James Brolin, but they've denied
rumors they're engaged. Think about it, though: Barbra Streisand
would be Driver's stepmother-in-law.
Is it true Regis
Philbin might quit one or both of his popular TV shows?
Dan Mencher, Massapequa, N.Y.
Please. He's not quitting anything. Philbin, 66 and never hotter,
wanted to host Who Wants to Be a Millionaire so badly that
he pitched himself to producers, or so he says. For the record,
they say Reege, always a kidder, topped their list. Whatever. Fast
forward: Philbin reportedly makes $20 million a year to 1) stay
with his morning talk show through the 2002-03 season and 2) host
Millionaire four, up from three, nights a week come fall.
The one who is headed out is Kathie Lee Gifford. After next week's
planned shower of affection for his Live! With Regis & Kathie
Lee partner of 15 years, Philbin will handle the show with rotating
guest hosts. At press time, no replacement had been named.
Former San Antonio
mayor Henry Cisneros, HUD secretary early in the Clinton administration,
always interested me. What is he doing now?
Janet Boyles, Poulsbo,Wash.
The charismatic Democrat whose extramarital affair led to personal scandal,
a federal investigation and a misdemeanor charge has headed the
Spanish-language TV network Univision for the past three years.
Its fast growth (it's the No. 5 network) makes Cisneros, 52, a player
in L.A. He's 55th on Entertainment Weekly's Power 100 list,
right behind Leonardo DiCaprio. Politics isn't out of the question.
Dems in Texas, where Cisneros keeps a home, have said he'd still
be a serious contender for office there. Everyone in my family
loves Tom Hanks, but we don't know much about his family. For example,
how many kids does he have?
Winifred Smith, El Paso
Four. And you're sure to get acquainted soon with his eldest,
handsome 21-year-old Colin, who is following Tom's career path.
He's a regular on the WB's teen-alien drama, Roswell (as
non-alien Alex Whitman), and has had a few small movie parts, including
one in That Thing You Do!, which was entirely his dad's baby.
Tom had Colin and daughter Elizabeth, 17, with his first wife, actress-producer
Samantha Lewes. He has two more sons -- Chester, 9, and Truman,
4 -- with his current wife, actress Rita Wilson.
Please tell Felicity
fans more about the character's new love interest, Greg Stenson.
He's adorable.
Jill Gorecki, Sterling Heights, Mich.
He's Canadian Chris William Martin, 25, a veteran of TV serials
and movies who was supposed to be in only two episodes of Felicity
last season but wound up in 10. "They brought me in to spice up
the storyline," he jokes. "They wanted to take the attention off
[Keri Russell's] hair." Martin, now home in Vancouver, doesn't yet
know how many episodes he'll be in next season, but working with
Russell, even the intimate scenes, doesn't intimidate him. It's
"a no-brainer," he tells us. "I mean, she's so cute."
