Take your
parents to Cyber School
Hey, kids, here's your chance to show your parents the Web isn't
the vast wasteland they may fear. This week, Cable in the Classroom
kicks off Take Your Parents to Cyberschool, an initiative urging
students to hit the Internet with their parents and explore loads
of kid-friendly educational resources.
At cyberschool.ciconline.org
you'll find links to more than a dozen stellar learning sites, from
CNNfyi.com,
for age-appropriate coverage of breaking news, to websmartkids.org,
for important information on Internet literacy from Cable in the
Classroom, a non-profit organization that provides commercial-free
educational TV to schools.
Why all the hoopla? "We know that parents have concerns around their kids' use of the Internet," says Vince Ferrandino, executive director of the National Association of Elementary School Principals. "But we also know it offers invaluable resources for learning." Ferrandino urges parents to get involved, whether it's talking about Internet safety or surfing the Web with their children for homework answers.
While kids may know more about navigating the Web, parents still
can help them evaluate what they find. Plus, who knows? Parents
may even learn something in the process.
