"Enterprise," behind the scenes
USA WEEKEND talked with "Enterprise" costume designer Robert Blackman and we got the inside scoop on the creation of the show's new uniforms. Here's an exclusive look at the creative process.
Inside the wardrobe department located in the purchasing warehouse at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, a draper stitches a uniform. The burgundy stripes indicate that the garment will end up being worn by a character who works with tactical matters or security for the ship. Behind the draper, a cutter fitter surveys a pattern.

The model form at right wears a finished Enterprise uniform. The rack at left holds prototypes. Costume designer Robert Blackman had drapers construct suits in denim and twill and in a variety of colors before settling on a dark blue stone-washed fabric. The prototype suits were created with different features on each side of the suit so that producers could get an idea of all of the possible features the finished suit could have.
