"Enterprise," behind the scenes
A costumer makes adjustments on a uniform. Blackman had the zippers on the suits specially made. Each suit boasts 13 zippers. Because the zipper pulls are custom made, they don't make it through the dry cleaning process very well. As a result, the color on the pulls has to be touched up after each cleaning. Why all the pockets? To keep the suits closer to reality. "By 2051 we probably won't have done away with currency, with keys. The pockets reflect a little bit of who we are now," Blackman explains.

Next to a finished Enterprise uniform, hangs a costume for one of the aliens who will appear in the pilot. "The Sulibans are the villains," Blackman reveals. "The costumes are made to appear to be a similar texture as skin because these aliens have the ability to metamorphis into other things."
