Where is former L.A. district attorney Marcia Clark, the lead prosecutor in O.J. Simpson's murder trial? Is she married? Practicing law?
Arlene Lubnik, Detroit
Six years after Simpson's acquittal, Clark, 48, has a TV and writing career and a possible radio deal. She married Mitch Kashmar, a blues musician, and spends time with her two sons from a previous marriage -- a near impossibility when she was a D.A. She no longer practices law, but she's a regular on the syndicated "Power of Attorney" and will write a column for a magazine, "Justice", to debut in January. Clark, still in L.A., got $4.2 million for her 1997 best seller, "Without a Doubt", but tells us she still must work. For fun, she's into bike racing, hiking and yoga. The good news about life after O.J.: "I'm not being followed by the tabloids." The bad news: "The anguish of knowing he's alive, gets to play golf and see his children, and Nicole doesn't; [that] Ron [Goldman], a promising life, was cut down. Maybe there will ultimately be a karma that evens it out."
What has happened to Bobby Cannavale, who played a paramedic on NBC's "Third Watch"? Why did they kill him off? Did he want to leave?
Sharon Baylor, St. Helen, Mich.
He did, so he was happy the writers arranged for his character to go out in a big way. His fans, it seems, did not agree. Cannavale, 29, says he's been stopped on the streets in New York, where he lives, by Third Watchers who demand to know why his character had to die. The actor resurfaces Monday night on "100 Centre St.", the A&E courthouse drama created and produced by Sidney Lumet -- Cannavale's father-in-law and neighbor. Cannavale plays a lawyer on the show, which debuted last spring, so he spent some time in a real courthouse and learned that "judges and lawyers speak in code." He also has worked in a few Lumet movies, but his "Third Watch" job came from an earlier association -- on the short-lived drama Trinity, with creator John Wells, who went on to make "Third Watch". He's as ambitious as any young actor but says, "My main focus is to stay in New York." He loves the urban life he shares with wife Jenny, a drama teacher, and their 6-year-old son. "I haven't had a job in L.A. yet," he says, as if that will last for long.
How about a few personal details on the TV chef Emeril Lagasse? Is he a family man?
Melissa Smith, Silverdale, Wash.
Yes, and now he plays one on TV, too. Lagasse, 41, has two daughters, both in college, from his first marriage; he wed again two years ago. Wife Alden travels with him as he tends to six restaurants in three cities, his Food Network cooking show and a new NBC sitcom that premiered last month. His onscreen family is younger, he tells us, but otherwise the show "is like my real life. I go to work, and I'm surrounded by these intense, controlling women who always manage to get themselves in trouble -- and I've got to get them out of it." The "Emeril" pilot did not get raves, but writers retooled the show and "found the formula," Lagasse promises. Still, I notice he's not giving up those day jobs.

Martina McBride is a country superstar with a new greatest-hits album in stores. But when the tour bus is back in its Nashville garage, she's a down-to-earth wife and mom who, like the rest of us, asks herself, "What am I gonna make for dinner?" McBride, 35, a contender for the Country Music Association's Female Vocalist of the Year award next month, has one daughter in school and another, a toddler, at home. "It's a little bit like having two lives," she says. Her husband, John, and their girls, Delaney, 6, and Emma, 3, always travel together. That makes for a strong family, and in a year of celebrity marital splits, the McBrides are going against the trend. What's the secret to their 13-year union? Says the singer: "We're committed to each other, we're committed to our family and to our marriage, and we love each other. It always helps if you're in love."
