What do the women of Destiny's Child mean when they say they're "on hiatus"? Are they really breaking up to pursue solo careers?
Cecily Lawson, Pensacola, Fla.
As a group, the ladies insist it's a break, not a breakup. They are still planning a spring U.S. and European tour (postponed from the fall); they'll be at the Feb. 27 Grammys, where their "Survivor" is up for two awards; and they'll be at the NAACP Image Awards, which will air on Fox in March. That said, Beyoncé Knowles is the one with a simmering solo career. The other two have their own CDs in the works, but Knowles has a part in the third Austin Powers movie, filming now, and a contract with L'Oréal that gives her mainstream visibility. Also, her father, Matthew, manages the group; he wouldn't return our phone calls to talk Destiny's Child's future or anything else.
Tom Everett Scott, Kim Delaney's fellow defense lawyer on ABC's "Philly," did a great job as a drummer in 1996's "That Thing You Do!" Does he play in real life?
Kathryn Schrier, Winnetka, Calif.
No, but he got to keep the drums, now in the hands of his 17-year-old sister-in-law. The L.A. home he shares with wife Jenni and daughter Arly, 20 months, has little room for practice. "You know how men need an office or a toolshed or something? I need a room for my drums and my 50 tools," says Scott, 31, who gets tools as gifts but doesn't use them. He tells us that he met his wife in college but that they didn't click until years later. Complicating matters, his roommate fell for her, too. Did that stop Scott? "He liked her," says the actor, who plays a convincing, lovable playboy on Philly, "but I stole her away."
Please write about "Harry Potter" actor Sean Biggerstaff, who plays Gryffindor Quidditch captain Oliver Wood. I'm 14 and a little obsessed with Harry, but Biggerstaff is very good and gets no attention.
Liz Gottmer, Cincinnati
You're not the only reader to notice the very handsome Biggerstaff, Liz. In fact, his London-based representative tells us his young client gets a ton of fan mail. Unfortunately, he couldn't say whether it is, as I suspect, all from girls. Biggerstaff, who turns 19 next month, doesn't like to talk about his family much, but he still lives in Glasgow, his hometown in Scotland, plays guitar, is a fan of the British band the Cling and is finished with secondary school. He's had roles in theater, but "The Winter Guest" with Alan Rickman in 1997 was his first movie. Rickman, who plays Professor Snape in Harry Potter, liked Biggerstaff so much he recommended that the younger actor try out for the movie. Both are in the sequel, too, shooting now for November release.

Oleta Adams expects much of her music. She tells me it should "energize us and lift us up." It also should address daily challenges such as loving someone you don't like, fighting with a lover or coming home from work too tired to meet a child's needs. On her new pop CD, "All the Love," in stores since last week, Adams, whose 1990 song "Get Here" became an unofficial Gulf War anthem, sings about those things and more. A preacher's daughter, she first sang in church. She's deeply religious, intelligent, hip and well-traveled but grounded, perhaps because she always returns to the Kansas City area, where she lives with her husband (and drummer), John Cushon. On occasion, critics anoint her the new best thing, but she still struggles to get her music heard. "Image is such a part," she laments. "It can be depressing and distracting. Ella [Fitzgerald] and Sarah [Vaughan] didn't try to fit into a size 3."
