Stay a step ahead of your favorite shows
What will happen in the new episodes of your go-to TV shows this season? Head to the Web. Checking out so-called spoilers -- upcoming plot twists -- before episodes air has become a must for die-hard fans of shows from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer": to "Friends." Amateur fan sites and professional gossips have fueled the trend, seeking out industry sources, scouring obscure interviews with show producers for clues and doggedly sharing with fans as much as they can about what will happen long before shows hit the airwaves.
Among the juicy tidbits we found: whether Lana Lang will survive a twister when the WB's hit "Smallville" returns to the small screen Tuesday (she will); what's in store for the now-widowed Jack Bauer on the new season of Fox's "24" (a new love interest); and what's up with Carter and Abby on "ER" (hint: there's a shower scene).
For more on "Smallville", go to Craig Byrne's fan site, Kryptonsite.com. He reveals which of Clark Kent's friends will learn he has secret powers, which new power Clark will develop, and why Lex Luthor appears to be headed to the altar. (We don't want to "spoil" the show for you, so we'll refrain from spilling all the details here.)
At aintitcool.com, a writer known as Hercules spoils shows like "Alias" and "24." Eonline.com features a weekly hour-long chat (Mondays, 6 p.m. ET) with a plugged-in television maven-cum-spoiler who goes by the moniker Wanda. One tidbit she recently blabbed: "Friends"' Chandler will accidentally accept a job transfer to Tulsa. "It's addictive," she says. "People who first come to the chats inevitably think, 'I shouldn't be reading this, but I can't stop reading this!' "
