Who's News

I'm a huge fan of Peter and Bobby Farrelly, the brothers behind "There's Something About Mary". I hear they're making a movie about the Three Stooges. Any info?
Anna Prymak, Woonsocket, R.I.

They're writing and producing a Stooges movie that should be out by Thanksgiving 2003. Huge Stooges fans, the Farrelly (FAIR-uh-lee) brothers once offered to do such a movie for no cash upfront. No word yet on who'll play the trio; the brothers say they're eyeing everyone from "complete unknowns to Robert De Niro and George Clooney." The Farrellys also are producing "The Ringer", starring Johnny Knoxville (of MTV's "Jackass").

Sarah Chalke, star of NBC's hit comedy "Scrubs", can talk up a storm. "Talking too fast is something I've struggled with all my life," says Chalke, 26. "I have to focus on slowing down." That's why she loves her role as clumsy doctor Elliot Reid: She can talk naturally. That, and the five-month hiatus each year, the free guitar lessons (from her co-stars) and the pingpong, Ms. Pac-Man and "Scrubs Factor" (à la "Fear Factor") games on set. Even filming in an abandoned hospital is fun -- usually: "Once, somebody came in bleeding and needed help. We said, 'This isn't a real hospital,' and they looked at us in our scrubs like we were crazy. Now we have a huge sign that says it's a set."

I was sad to hear that Barry Watson of the WB's "7th Heaven" had been diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease. How is he?
Tom Ericksen, Minneapolis

Watson, 28, is cancer-free after a summer of treatments, his rep says. He left "Heaven" after last season to pursue other work, but he wrote an episode, "Peer Pressure," to air Monday. Send wishes to: Barry Watson, 8500 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 700, Beverly Hills, Calif. 90211.

Please tell me what Neve Campbell is up to. She was so popular on "Party of Five", but I haven't seen her in a movie or TV project lately.
A.J. Beck, Minneapolis

She's in Chicago shooting (and producing) a Robert Altman film, "The Company", inspired by the city's own Joffrey Ballet. It's a dream come true for Campbell, who, in Canada, studied at the National Ballet School and danced with the National Ballet. Still dating actor John Cusack (a Chicago native), Campbell, 29, spent time with the Joffrey dancers and took up ballet again for this role. See the "Scream" actress next in "Lost Junction" and "Investigating Sex".

Did TV journalist Elizabeth Vargas marry singer Marc Cohn?
George Meyer, Miami

Yes, in July. The couple first locked eyes in a locker room at tennis' U.S. Open in 1999. Cohn, 43, best known for his song Walking in Memphis, was visiting his friend Andre Agassi; Vargas, 40, was there to interview Agassi for ABC. "The New York Times" covered the couple's Catholic-Jewish ceremony; the bride wore a strapless Vera Wang dress.

Jim Carrey is so enormously talented and seems like a great guy. Why does he appear to have no luck in love?
Barbara Bilicki, Jamestown, N.Y.

Carrey, 40, is finicky, judging by his track record. The comic actor's first marriage -- to Melissa Womer, with whom he has a daughter -- lasted eight years. His on-again, off-again love with actress Lauren Holly, which seemed destined to endure when they wed in 1996, ended 10 months later. And his relationship with his "Me, Myself & Irene" co-star Renée Zellweger got as far as an engagement, but not the altar; the two split up in 2000. He is single now, but we bet not for long.

Who wrote the amazing ballad "A Moment Like This", sung by talented "American Idol" winner Kelly Clarkson?
Shann Morgan, Detroit

English songwriter John Reid and Swedish producer-songwriter Jörgen Elofsson penned that hit, which was released as a single Sept. 17 -- less than two weeks after Clarkson, 20, was crowned the "Idol" winner. Elofsson also has a string of Britney Spears hits on his songwriting résumé, including ("You Drive Me") "Crazy" and "Sometimes".
