Who's News

I know "My Big Fat Greek Wedding"'s John Corbett was Carrie Bradshaw's boyfriend Aidan on "Sex and the City." What else has he got going?
Susan Barra, Pittsford, N.Y.

Next up for Corbett, 41, is another cable series. This time he's the star, playing Michael "Lucky" Linkletter in "Lucky", a dark comedy about compulsive gamblers, set in Las Vegas. FX has ordered 12 episodes, to begin airing next spring. Unfortunately, that leaves Corbett out of CBS' plans for a series based on "Greek Wedding", the most successful independent movie ever. (The comedy cost only $5 million to make and at press time had grossed some $185 million.) Writer and star Nia Vardalos found the 6-foot-5 Corbett perfect for her movie bridegroom because of his "very all-American guy" look. Bo Derek must like it, too; Corbett has been dating the actress for most of this year.

A little background, please, on "I Spy"'s Owen Wilson. I'm a fan of his, nose and all.
Lisa Scherry, Brigham City, Utah

"I broke it playing college football," Wilson, 34, explains, "but it was flag football, intramurals. I also broke it in high school." He says he would prefer a nose more like Cary Grant's "instead of askew, but you play it as it lays." He's been playing it well, starring in "The Royal Tenenbaums" and "Behind Enemy Lines" last year and two comedies coming in the new year: "Shanghai Knights", in which he reteams with Jackie Chan, and "Starsky and Hutch" with his pal Ben Stiller. Interestingly, Wilson says, "I wasn't the class clown. I thought maybe I'd go into advertising, or be a writer."

Tell me about Irish Tenors Anthony Kearns, Ronan Tynan and Finbar Wright. Where do they live? Are they married?
Christine Schult, Wausau, Wis.

Kearns, 31, is the youngest. From Kiltealy, County Wexford, he now lives in Dublin, where nearly a decade ago he won a national singing competition to promote a new 10-pound note, the "tenner." Wright, 45, from Kinsdale, County Cork, is a former priest who lives in Cork with wife Angela and their two kids. Tynan, 42, is from Johnstown, County Kilkenny. He's an avid equestrian who set several world records in field sports for the disabled after his legs were amputated. He has a medical degree from Trinity College, Dublin.

"Boomtown"'s Mykelti Williamson has a thing about what people are called. "The first gift you give your child is her name," says the man whose three daughters are Phoenix ("I wanted her to be able to come back from whatever life dished out"), Nicole Skye ("in God's hands, like the sky") and Maya ("God's creation") River ("free flowing and cleansing"). His own name, he tells me, comes from an American Indian language. "It means 'spirit like gods' or 'silent friend.' " It's fitting, then, that the cop Williamson plays on NBC's hot Sunday drama is called Fearless. The character is a risk-taker and fiercely loyal, not unlike Williamson himself, who has built tight friendships along with his solid TV and film career, including Tom Hanks and Gary Sinise ("Forrest Gump") and Mark Wahlberg ("Three Kings"). Wahlberg is the brother of Williamson's "Boomtown" partner Donnie Wahlberg, whom he calls his "main guy." Says Williamson, 42: "There's something about Donnie and me. I feel like I've known him all my life. I'm in New York today, but I've talked to Donnie twice already."

Does Lilith Fair founder Sarah McLachlan plan to release a new CD any time soon?
Megan Griffith, Arvada, Colo.

She says she'll put one out sometime in 2003; she's been working on fresh songs. Although this CD is much anticipated -- it will be her first new work since 1997's "Surfacing" -- we have to cut her some slack. McLachlan, 34, and her husband, drummer Ashwin Sood, became parents last April, and no doubt life has revolved around baby daughter India ever since. Meanwhile, McLachlan sings "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" with the Barenaked Ladies on the new holiday CD "Maybe This Christmas".

What's the deal with actress Julianne Moore's family life? Didn't she have a second baby not long ago?
Dee Edwards, Chicago

Yes. She and her director boyfriend, Bart Freundlich, now have Cal, 4, and Liv, 7 months. "With two children, my life is fuller, more exciting and more difficult," says Moore, who works almost non-stop. She's made nearly three dozen films in the last decade. "Far From Heaven" is in theaters, and "The Hours" opens Dec. 27. "There's all this talk about the difficulties of motherhood and career and balancing, blah, blah. I think it's fortunate we've gotten to a place where we feel we can complain. No one ever said this was a breeze. But it's worth it." Of course, Moore has a nanny to help her.
