Mom doesn't need another box of candy

You've probably known your mother most of your life. So it's likely you ran out of original gift ideas when you were about 12. I know I did. But Mother's Day comes around every year, and although I know my mother loves chocolate (Godiva.com), it'd be nice to surprise her with something different. Wouldn't it be great to hire a gift finder to come up with new ideas my mom would really like?

A kit to grow plants that smell like chocolate is an unusual choice some mothers may like.

That's the thinking behind Surprise.com. Click on "Mother's Day" on the site's list of occasions, and you'll find lots of personality types: Loves Natural Fibers, Getting Older, Empty Nest, etc. You'll encounter ideas submitted by regular people and sorted by popularity.

My mother is a serious gardener, so that's where I clicked. Within seconds, I found the perfect gift: A Chocolate Garden growing kit with plants that smell like chocolate. Surprise.com doesn't sell the stuff; it just provides links -- in this case to Redenvelope.com -- to merchants that do. (Often there are several links to sites that offer similar products, so even the comparison shopping is done for you.)

Amazon.com's Gifts Store (from the main page, choose "See More Stores") suggests presents for people who are Impossible to Shop For, Kids at Heart, Gadget Lovers, etc. All the items are available through Amazon. Findgift.com also suggests (but doesn't sell) gifts for Mother's Day and most other occasions, although not by personality type.

Now if I could just find a site that suggests ideas my editor will like.
