Who's News

What are the chances of Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones reteaming for another "Zorro" movie?
Bill Schimmel, York, Pa.

Very good. At press time, both were "in discussions" about a sequel to 1998's "The Mask of Zorro;" Anthony Hopkins reportedly is on board for a cameo. A script is written, and production could begin at any time.

I am so disappointed that Melana Scantlin didn't pick Adam Mesh on the TV dating show "Average Joe." Will he go on to be the next "Bachelor?"
A. Bogle, Fort Wayne, Ind.

No, but he has a four-part series of his own, "Average Joe: Adam Returns," which premiered Monday on NBC. The show was created in response to thousands of female admirers who called, e-mailed and sent letters to Mesh, 28, and NBC after the "Average Joe" finale in December. NBC chose 20 to compete for his heart in Palm Springs, Calif. To prepare, Mesh worked out with a trainer, but he tells us he drastically changed only one thing: "I had the hair on my back waxed." So, what are his plans after this round of "Joe?" Says Mesh: "Do you mean after we have the honeymoon?"

If David Sutcliffe, 34, has learned anything from his ABC comedy, "I'm With Her," it's that he doesn't want to date a celebrity. "If I went out with someone really famous and we made it in "People" magazine the next day, that would be really weird," says the single actor, whose schoolteacher character dates a movie star (played by Teri Polo, 34). Sutcliffe isn't star-struck himself, except about athletes: "I was at the premiere for the movie "Miracle," and Wayne Gretzky was there," he says. "I was like a 14-year-old girl seeing Ben Affleck." That's because he's athletic himself; he ran the L.A. Marathon, his first, earlier this month. How'd he get into that? "I had just broken up with a girlfriend, was feeling blue and getting a little stressed out about the first season of the show," he says. "To train for 16 weeks and get that big reward at the end, that really helps you feel grounded."

Sutcliffe runs women out of his life.

Like many other celebs, Josh Duhamel cut his acting teeth on a daytime soap -- in his case, "All My Children." Now Duhamel, 31, is becoming one of Hollywood's leading men. On NBC's Las Vegas, he plays a sexy casino surveillance expert, and in the recent "Win a Date With Tad Hamilton!" he was the full-of-himself movie star who fell for a fan. "I play all these characters without a heart," says Duhamel (due-MEL). "But angelic is boring." Not that he was ever an angel: "When I was 20 and in college, I had a fake ID to get into bars, and I got busted." His mother found out when he showed up in a documentary. Says Duhamel: "That didn't go over well at home."

Does Catherine Bell's husband ever escort the "JAG" actress to events like award shows? He's never seen.
Kit Malloy, Marysville, Wash.

"He's a low-profile guy," Bell says of husband Adam Beason. "He definitely comes to events with me. He just hangs back and takes pictures for my Web site, catherinebellonline.com." Together the couple balances new parenthood (daughter Gemma is 11 months old), a production company and her "JAG" schedule. Bell, 35, who was in "Bruce Almighty," tells us she wants to make more movies: "I have about three months off this summer, so I'm hoping to do another film then."

Bell may walk the red carpet alone, but husband Adam Beason sees all.

What is George Clooney working on these days?
Cookie Ballew, Cincinnati

He's getting ready to start filming "Ocean's Twelve;" things got delayed when Brad Pitt hurt his Achilles tendon filming "Troy." And George, 42, will no doubt make news again as he helps his father, the charming Nick Clooney, 69, run for Congress as a Democrat from Augusta, Ky., traditionally a Republican district. Look for George, who's always been close to his dad, to host fund-raisers in Los Angeles, at least.

Please tell me that "Signs" director M. Night Shyamalan is working on a new movie.
Anita Mandat, Lisbon, N.Y.

Shyamalan's latest film, "The Village," will be out July 30. Another supernatural thriller, it is set at the turn of the 20th century and features Signs star Joaquin Phoenix as a young man who wants to leave his rural Pennsylvania town but first must pass through a foreboding forest. Adrien Brody, William Hurt and Sigourney Weaver also star.
