Vintage Vegas

Designer Isaac Mizrahi takes in the vibrant mob movie "Casino."

It's fashion show as much as gangster flick -- got a problem with that?!

The plot: Set in the 1970s, the heyday of Las Vegas corruption, Martin Scorsese's glittering masterpiece follows Sam "Ace" Rothstein (Robert De Niro), the number-crunching manager of the Tangiers casino, and his hustler girlfriend, Ginger (Sharon Stone). Although it's ostensibly a gangster picture, viewers may remember the garish outfits best.

Insider's credentials: Isaac Mizrahi, who had his own show on cable's Oxygen network, designs high fashion as well as a line for Target.

Overview: "It's an amazing picture. When I originally went to see it in 1995, I thought it was very avant-garde, because it was so colorful. This felt like a Technicolor picture from the 1950s."

Scene 6: The Long Shot -- Ace weds Ginger, who wears a short white dress.
"Sharon Stone has this tawdry edge to her, which I adore. Her wedding suit was so right. It added such depth to the scene and gave it this psychotic edge. Like, here's this girl going to her wedding in this crazy miniskirt. It wasn't at all modest."

Scene 13: A Dangerous Situation -- Ace lounges around the house in PJs and a silk robe.
"The costume designers did an amazing job creating that sleazy, rich, private bedroom look in Vegas. People probably don't dress like that for bed anymore, but, honestly, how do we know?"

Scene 16: The Town Will Never Be the Same -- Now retired, Ace stares out of his window while wearing enormous sunglasses.
"What strikes me about the sunglasses in this movie is they really had guts in those days. They really did wear sunglasses that big. I wish we would have courage about eyewear again."
