Ringo Starr leads team at World Elephant Polo championships...

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year

Who is this Daniel Craig, who replaces Pierce Brosnan as James Bond?
Max Robinson, Hayward, Calif.

He is a handsome, albeit blond, Brit actor who, at 37, is 15 years younger than Brosnan. He'll be the sixth Bond (the first blond), and he'll star in "Casino Royale," to begin production next year. Craig is a film and theater veteran in Britain and recently won praises in "Layer Cake" opposite "It girl" Sienna Miller, Jude Law's on-again (at press time) girlfriend, who reportedly dated Craig briefly. Before he becomes 007, we will see Craig in "Munich," coming out Dec. 23.

With "Aeon Flux" just out and awards buzz around her fall film "North Country," Charlize Theron is again the talk of Hollywood. The first South African to win an Oscar (for 2003's "Monster"), Theron, 30, celebrated with Nelson Mandela. "I've gotten to know Nelson over the years," she says. "He has become a great father/grandfather figure for me. Every time I go back to South Africa, I hang out with him and chat and always feel so unbelievably inspired." Irish actor Stuart Townsend, most recently in TV's "Night Stalker," is the other man in her life. She wears a ring he gave her, but "we're not engaged. It's a Victorian ring decorated with forget-me-not flowers. It opens up, and you can put love letters inside."

Is Rachael Ray married? And how long has she been cooking?
Donna Morgan, Lincoln, Neb.

Ray is a newlywed. She married John Cusimano, her longtime love, lawyer and member of the band the Cringe, in September in Italy. Ray has been cooking all her life. She's not classically trained, but she grew up around restaurants because her mother worked in several. Ray, 37, got her start working at Macy's candy counter. Now she has her own magazine and is working with Oprah Winfrey's people on a syndicated talk show for fall 2006.

Dr. Phil McGraw and his wife, Robin, are nuts about the holidays, so they're perfect hosts for TNT's "Christmas in Washington" concert (Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET). Robin gets their house fully decorated by Thanksgiving, and Phil tells us her nutcracker collection is at about 350. "These aren't some little 3-inch nutcrackers," he says. "Some are 4-foot tall." Of course, we asked him for some seasonal words of wisdom. He says to relax: "We overschedule ourselves. You can't see everybody every year. ... Let them come see you."

Can you give me some background on Fergie, the lead singer of the musical group Black Eyed Peas?
Alexia Papato, Honolulu

Stacy Ann Ferguson, 30, from Hacienda Heights, Calif., was the voice of Sally in 1983's Saturday morning cartoon "The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show." In 1984, she started a five-year run on "Kids Incorporated" alongside Jennifer Love Hewitt. Her previous pop group, Wild Orchid, disbanded after four years. She joined the Peas in 2002, adopted Fergie as her stage name and took off. She's dating "Las Vegas" star Josh Duhamel.

Singer-songwriter Jon Secada recently released "Same Dream," his first LP in three years, to good reviews. He was busy in between on Broadway. "It was the hardest work I'll ever do," he says of his stints in "Cabaret" and "Grease." Secada, 42, who grew up in Miami, returned to his native Cuba in October for a show at Guantanamo Bay. "It's very emotional for me to touch Cuban soil," he tells us.

I thought Sabrina Lloyd was great alongside Rob Morrow in "Numb3rs" last season. Why did she leave?
Sanja Komitz, Philadelphia

She missed New York. "It was always my intention to do the show for a year, unless (L.A.) felt like home," says Lloyd, 35. She's back East now, taking in museums and "doing New York how it's supposed to be done." Next up, two movies to shoot -- one in Philadelphia, one in London.
