Who's News

SPECIAL EDITION: YEAR IN QUOTES

Dear Readers,
I wish I could tell you ALL the things celebrities tell me. Each year I talk with scores of stars about family, friends, politics, movies and myriad other topics. To answer your questions, I, or one of my contributors, will ask anything. And because most of our subjects are eager to talk, we learn a lot. Unfortunately, too often I can't squeeze in all the good stuff. As we close our last issue of this year, I want to share with you the best "outtakes" of 2005's Who's News interviews. These are quotes you haven't read before. Enjoy!
Lorrie

"They are so drop-dead gorgeous."
-- Actress Jane Seymour, on her young, attractive "Smallville" co-stars.

"I missed her most on the day my son arrived. It was the first time I cried about it."
-- Rosie O'Donnell, on her mother's death from cancer when O'Donnell was 10.

"I'm not in favor of the death penalty, because we really don't know about death. What if we're sending people on to one big party?"
-- "Alias" actor Carl Lumbly

"I would ditch school, go to Taco Bell and order three burritos and two tacos."
-- "Biggest Loser" coach Jillian Michaels, on her life at age 14.

"Man, that was so not me."
-- Country singer Patty Loveless, on what she thinks when she sees her picture on album covers from the past 19 years.

"They're great, except when they are tired and cranky."
-- Matt Lauer, on his children, ages 4 and 2.

-- Jenny McCarthy, on continuing her acting career.

"Now it's all about the dress. When I was nominated the first time, I just dragged something out of the closet."
-- Stockard Channing, on what the Emmy award ceremony has become.

"I do hear, 'Oh, she's too beautiful; she's too glamorous,' which is frustrating, because in a town where they can do anything -- if they're shooting "Antarctica," they can build it -- the fact that they can't dress down a woman is preposterous."
-- Actress Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon, on explanations she hears when she's not cast.

"You have to be willing to say no to the ungodly amounts of money people have to produce crap."
-- Patrick Swayze, on how he navigates career choices.

"Leo's a much better man than I am."
-- John Spencer, on his "West Wing" character, Leo McGarry.

"My prayer was that another actor would take my bonds off."
-- Quintessential Mr. Darcy Colin Firth, on Matthew Macfadyen playing Darcy in the new "Pride & Prejudice."

"It was destroying my life, getting in the way of everything."
-- Actress and Air America Radio host Janeane Garofalo, on why she gave up her "social lubricant," alcohol.

"I Googled him."
-- Sheryl Lee Ralph, on how she checked out a blind date, her now-husband, Pennsylvania state Sen. Vincent Hughes.

"I don't know if we've slept together. My theory is that we dated. She's always greatly admired him. He was a legend at her school."
-- "House" actress Lisa Edelstein, on the backstory she developed for her Dr. Cuddy and Hugh Laurie's Dr. House.

"Nobody tries to make a bad movie."
-- "Titanic" and "Terminator" director James Cameron.

"When I'm 60, I don't want to be going out to premieres."
--Actress, talk-show host and red-carpet maven Lisa Rinna, on why she got into the retail fashion business.

"My mother always told me I could be somebody."
-- Actor, talk-show host and new grandfather Tony Danza, on why he's a success.
