Issue Date: June 4, 2006
We want to see more of Gerard Butler, from "Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life" and "" Why is no one showing his newest movie, "Beowulf & Grendel," in the United States? It opened in Canada in March.
Orviletta James and Diane Freeman, Sweet Home, Ore.
At press time, "Beowulf" had no U.S. distributor, which is why you haven't seen it here. But Butler, 36, has "300," adapted from a graphic novel, coming in 2007, and he's in Canada filming a crime thriller, "Butterfly on a Wheel."

His ex-wife is a Desperate Housewife; his TV love is Kevin Bacon's wife. But the real sweetheart in Jon Tenney's life is a second-grader with a passion for horses. "She would sleep in the stables if she could," Tenney, 44, says of daughter Emerson, 8. Tenney, who shares custody with his ex, Teri Hatcher, delights in taking Emerson riding. And he's happy with how things will develop on "The Closer" this season, particularly his romance with star Kyra Sedgwick (read about her, below). "It's fraught with possibilities," he says. "It's smart."
I thought Robert Redford was supposed to star in a movie with Jennifer Lopez. Is that still in the works?
Kaci Kizer, Pine Bluff, Ark.
You're thinking of last year's "An Unfinished Life," which flopped fast but came out on DVD in April -- so take a look. Redford, 69, is now working on a movie about Branch Rickey, the Brooklyn Dodgers manager who signed the legendary Jackie Robinson.
I often wonder what became of Elizabeth Taylor's daughter Liza Todd?
Debbie Roberts, Reno
Todd, 48, is a sculptor known for her equestrian pieces. Taylor, who is quite an art collector, proudly displays her daughter's works at home. The only child of Taylor and her third husband, movie producer Mike Todd (killed in a plane crash), Liza is a divorced mother of two sons.
When will we see "Saturday Night Live's" Tina Fey in her own sitcom? And how does she get better-looking with age?
Dan West, Las Vegas
"Is this letter from my mom?" Fey quips. Good news: She will get her own sitcom on NBC this fall. She'll play the head writer of a variety show (the star is played by "SNL" pal Rachel Dratch) who copes with an interfering corporate boss (Alec Baldwin). "As for aging well," says the married mom of a 9-month-old girl, "I'm 36, but I tell people I'm 50. They say, 'Wow! You look great.' "
What is actress Phoebe Cates up to? Any possibilities in show business?
Reymundo Daw, Gallup, N.M.
She gets offers but tells me she's not tempted. She and husband Kevin Kline want a parent at home with children Owen, 14, and Greta, 12. "One of us had to do it," she says of giving up filmmaking. But Cates, 42, now owns a boutique, Blue Tree, on Manhattan's Upper East Side: "I love every part of it. Even the headachy part." The shop has a fun mix. "There's nothing I wouldn't consider selling," she says. She takes buying trips to places like Paris, but mostly she's in the store helping customers before meeting up with the kids after school.

You may recall her as Kevin's hippie sister on "The Wonder Years." Perhaps you saw her as a manipulative murderer on "Law & Order: CI" or read about her comic turn in "The Odd Couple" on Broadway. Clearly, Olivia d'Abo, 35, has a wide range. The release of her first solo CD, "Turku," this month is more proof. "It's me continuing to express myself," d'Abo tells me. She plans a "mini-tour" but has been caught up in "Couple" since fall. "I've never joined the circus or been part of one, but it is the closest thing I can compare [the show] to. These people become your tribe."
I'm a Kevin Bacon fan and wonder when he'll have a new movie. It's been a while.
Gerri Birdie, Daytona Beach, Fla.
Bacon will open "Loverboy," his directing debut, on June 16. He has a small role; the stars (at right) are his wife, Kyra Sedgwick, 40, and daughter Sosie, 14, in her first and what Bacon, 47, says "may be her last" acting gig. "She's incredible," he tells us. "[But] her drive is more about doing well in school." Bacon handles the kids (son Travis is 16) when Sedgwick works but tells us, "I'll never be Mom."
