Bond's bling

A famed jeweler gets shaken and stirred by the 007 classic "Diamonds Are Forever."

The DVD, out now, is part of the "James Bond Ultimate Collection, Vol. 1." The sleek box set includes five films.

THE PLOT: This installment of the British spy franchise released in 1971 finds James Bond (Sean Connery) on the trail of evil diamond smuggler Ernst Stavro Blofeld (Charles Gray). Now, the adaptable "Double-Oh Seven" must go undercover to foil a diabolical plot to destroy the world. As usual, there are lush settings, tricky gadgetry and liaisons with a criminal sexpot, Tiffany Case (Jill St. John).

INSIDER's CREDENTIALS: Bling baron Gabriel Jacobs is one of the founders of the custom jewelry spot Avianne & Co. Nestled in midtown Manhattan's Diamond District, the company services such carat-crazed clients as Jay-Z, Sean Combs, Lindsay Lohan and Oprah. Among his flashiest pieces is a detachable Maserati emblem with white, yellow and blue diamonds. Jacobs also has designed a working stoplight pendant and a jewel-encrusted, battery-powered spinning globe.

OVERVIEW: "I would love to be in James Bond's shoes for one day. He's got the hottest looks, gadgets and girls. He's also got all the money he needs. He's always in a jam and gets out of it -- in a suit. You gotta love that."

Scene 3: Sir Donald Munger (Laurence Naismith) delivers the dossier for Bond's new mission whileexplaining the intricacies of the diamond industry. "It was interesting when he started talking about [the illegal ways people procure diamonds]. A lot of people can die in the process. To get diamonds [responsibly] now, you have to double and triple the work. We don't smuggle stuff in. We deal with government-run or privately owned mines that work with the government to keep laborers safe."

Scene 20: In a showdown, Bond is faced with two Blofelds and mistakenly kills the double. It's only when Blofeld's cat, sporting an elaborate diamond collar, heads toward his living master that Bond is tipped off.

"Look at that cat with the blinged-out necklace! I don't even have a necklace like that one. I did have a client who once joked about making diamond grills for his dog. We were at a video shoot, and he was walking a bulldog, which had its bottom teeth hanging out. He wanted to put grillson them!"
