THE PLOT: After losing the presidential race in 2000, Al Gore hit the lecture circuit to raise awareness about climate change. Last summer's hit documentary is a taping of one of Gore's presentations along with glimpses of the former vice president's personal life.
GUEST COMMENTATOR: Randy Pfund, the GM of the Miami Heat, is knowledgeable about the environment because he taught high school geography before beginning a career in basketball. In his 11 years in the Heat's front office, Pfund was instrumental in putting together the team that won last year's NBA title.
OVERVIEW: "Essentially, the movie is a PowerPoint presentation. It would've been more entertaining if Chris Rock were the host. Still, global warming is a serious topic, making this a good DVD to bring home and show the family."
Scene 7: Glaciers Recede -- Gore provides photographic evidence of diminishing glaciers.
"The pictures of nature were more impressive than the charts and graphs. Seeing the impact through photography gave me a perspective on the effects of global warming."
Scene 32: Our Only Home -- Gore says that it is our responsibility to save the planet.
"People are waking up [to the realities of climate change], but when they go to work every morning, they're dealing with day-to-day issues. In my case, it's getting a couple of wins in the next week. [What's helpful is] at the end of the film, there are small steps we all should take to change our behavior."
