Who's News

What happened to Tony Danza since his talk show went off the air?
Marie McCahill, Lido Beach, N.Y

Danza is in "The Producers," his first Broadway musical. "I've been saying I want to do this for a long time, but talk is cheap. I had to prove it to myself," he says. His run ends March 11, then Danza, 55, has booked his song and dance show at some New York clubs. And he and his son have a cookbook coming out in June. Single after 20 years (he and wife Tracy separated last fall), Danza tells us that he's got a "Greta Garbo thing going on." He wants to be alone.

It's only fitting for an actress who declares, "I'm obsessed with Thursday nights ... 'Ugly Betty,' 'Grey's Anatomy,'" to land her own ABC pilot. Again. The last time Gabrielle Union, 34, had a TV series was in the fall of 2005; her supernatural drama "Night Stalker," on ABC, was quickly canceled. She confesses she "went into mourning." We're hoping her latest TV venture, the dramedy "Football Wives," will have a longer shelf life. The pilot currently is slated for the 2007-2008 season. You can catch Union now in the movie "Daddy's Little Girls," a romantic comedy that just opened. It's "one of the first movies my parents can go to and not be embarrassed."

My wife and I have enjoyed numerous stage productions of the musical "Miss Saigon." Will it ever be made into a movie?
Michael McNames, Caledonia, Ill.

Well, never say never. But there are no movie plans in the works now.

I saw Treat Williams on ABC's "Brothers & Sisters." Will he be a regular?
Lucille Williams, Clarks Summit, Pa.

Williams, 55, has been a guest star, says ABC, and he still could pop up semi-regularly. I liked him as a suitor for Sally Field.

I recently saw "The Illusionist" and thought it was one of the most finely crafted movies in years. Why did Edward Norton, Paul Giamatti and Jessica Biel not receive much attention?
Milo Wagner, Lakewood, Colo.

It was well done and had satisfying surprises, but its August release date didn't help. Also, Norton, who was the main audience draw, did very little publicity for the film.

Jenny McCarthy looks more fabulous than ever, and it goes beyond all that healthy eating she does as a Weight Watcher. "I'm in love," she tells me. Yes, she means with gifted comic actor Jim Carrey, 45. And yes, when they laugh, "I have a front-row seat to the funniest man in America," but she claims they're quiet and serious most of the time. Hard to imagine, especially when talking to McCarthy, 34, is a laugh itself. She's promoting Weight Watchers as an "after" example of someone who lost weight -- 60 pounds after her son, now 4, was born -- and kept it off. I tell her I can't remember her 60 pounds heavier. "I did not leave my house," she says. She was afraid the paparazzi would catch her and she'd become one of "the fat celebrity pictures we all secretly love seeing."

I'm so in love with Panic! at the Disco lead singer Brendon Urie. Please give me good news and tell me he's single.
Amanda Watt, Dale City, Va.

OK. The good news: Urie, 19, is single and has remained so after breaking up with scenester Audrey Kitching. The bad news: He may not stay that way for long. Urie's scruffy good looks worked their way into the hearts of the emo-pop nation after Panic! at the Disco's debut disc, "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out," was released in 2005 (it sold more than 1.5 million copies). As mouthpiece of one of the hottest bands around (and currently writing tunes for a new album), Urie is sure to cause a panic among the babes in the blogosphere who already are devoted to him.
