Who's News

What happened to Shania Twain? I'm sure she's wealthy enough not to have to work anymore, but will she ever record and tour again?
Tom Wilkins, Ogdensburg, N.Y.

Yes. Twain, 41, is getting ready to produce a new album, her first of all new material since 2002's "Up!" We're told to expect it sometime next year, with a tour likely to follow. And she'll launch a second fragrance, Starlight, this fall.

Tea Leoni gets offers to be "the wife." Maybe because she's done that, or because she's wife to David Duchovny (and mom of two), they aren't offers she's inclined to take. "It has to be good enough that I'll leave to spend 12 hours on a set," Leoni, 41, says. In "You Kill Me," she found "a damaged [character], which I like to play." She says "the best comedy comes when your life is at stake" but likes broad comedy, too. "Yesterday on the plane, I watched 'I Love Lucy' reruns."

If you haven't yet heard of Jemaine Clement, you will after this weekend. His HBO series, "Flight of the Conchords," premieres on Sunday. He also stars in the new film "Eagle vs. Shark," a relationship comedy. Clement, 33, from New Zealand, got his comedic start in high school. "I had to repeat my last year because I failed an exam," he says, "so I was older than the other kids. They didn't know that I was really shy. I'd always wanted to do something creative, so I developed a new persona and entertained the class." Fun fact: He's named after Jermaine Jackson. "My mother was ... a Jackson 5 fan," he says.

"I've been involved in a couple of projects where celebrity brats get together," says Ben Taylor, 30, the musician son of James Taylor and Carly Simon. "You find a lot in common." The latest "brats" project is a CD out for Father's Day, available exclusively at Target, called "A Song For My Father." Ben is on the album with other offspring, among them A.J. Croce, Sarah Lee Guthrie and Salvador Santana. He tells me he considered many of his dad's songs, but he settled on "Bartender's Blues" because "it wasn't an obvious one. I wouldn't put it in my Top 10, but I love to sing it."

I love the FX show "Dirt." The cast is great fun, particularly Courteney Cox Arquette and Josh Stewart, who have great chemistry. Will the show be back, and what is Stewart doing in the meantime?
Liliana Epstein, Baldwin, N.Y.

FX said yes to a second season; look for new episodes of "Dirt" in 2008. As for Stewart, 30, he recently wed in Hawaii, and we're told that he met his wife at a barbecue. Apart from playing Holt McLaren, his Dirt character loosely based on Sean Penn, Stewart will be in "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" with Brad Pitt, due next year.

Michael Urie from "Ugly Betty" looks like he has a dancer's body. Does he have professional dance training?
Carol Urbanik, Columbus, Ohio

Urie, 26, didn't train as a dancer, but at the Juilliard School (BFA, 2003), he recalls that "we had a lot of rigorous movement classes. One of the people in my dorm suite was a dancer and was very jealous of my pointe." As the campy fashionista Marc St. James on ABC's "Ugly Betty," he displays a cutting-edge wardrobe, but, he says, "I wouldn't necessarily wear those clothes in real life. I used to wear such dark, somber, actor-y clothes, but thanks to Marc, I now have a little flair in my closet."

Is Cote de Pablo, from CBS's "NCIS," Israeli, like her character? Is that her real name? How many languages does she speak?
Shirley H. Cole, Rancho Mirage, Calif.

De Pablo, 27, is Chilean and had never even been to Israel -- until she spent a week there last month. Brought up in Chile and Miami, she spoke Spanish, then learned English. "I can babble in Portuguese and French and have a conversation in Italian, but I speak only Spanish and English fluently." Her full first name is Maria José. "Cote" (pronounced co-tay) is a nickname for José.
