Exclusive poster celebrates Simpsons' big-screen debut
Simpsons fans are as excited about the first-ever "Simpsons" movie as Homer gets about doughnuts (mmmm, doughnuts). The creators, however, haven't offered hungry Simpsonites more than a few greasy crumbs about the much-anticipated movie. So USA WEEKEND stepped in to fill the void. To help sate the appetites of all those fans until "The Simpsons Movie" hits the big screen next weekend, we asked the show's creator, Matt Groening, and company to design a one-of-a-kind "Simpsons" poster exclusively for our readers. At this link, you will find Springfield's finest headed to a movie premiere of their own.
Ay, caramba! A sneak peek at The Simpsons Movie, above. This week's cover and the poster on the following pages were created exclusivelyfor USA WEEKEND readers.

In the poster, with everyone gathered for the Springfield Film Festival, there's plenty to see. We talked with bona fide Simpsons experts to give you the scoop and decipher all the poster's hidden highlights. So put on your thick Milhouse glasses and check it out!
The places. Sure, no one knows where Springfield actually is (although we find out in the movie that it's bordered by Ohio, Nevada, Maine and Kentucky). But the town has its fair share of memorable landmarks, several of which show up in our poster. Because it's a movie premiere, everyone's gathered outside the Aztec Theater. Then there's the famous Springfield sign, making the town feel a bit more like Hollywood. And don't miss the Duff Beer blimp, high in the sky, catching all the action down below.
The scene. "Events like a movie premiere usually are packed in Springfield," SimpsonCrazy.com's Scott Vivian says. "It's the only thing that brightens up their dull lives!"
The hidden jokes. See the fine print on the Duff blimp for a Simpsons-style safety warning. Then try to spot the call-out to "The Itchy & Scratchy Movie," which Homer banned Bart from seeing. Plus, says Jonah Flynn, of fan site NoHomers.net, note Grampa's blue sweatshirt; you'll never catch him wearing it on the show! -- Kathy Rowings
