Q: Ally Walker of "Profiler" seemed to disappear after that show. What ever happened to her?
Taggart, Blue Ash, Ohio
Walker, 46, married and a mom of three boys, didn't want to work much. But now she's in HBO's "Tell Me You Love Me." "When I started reading it, I was floored," she says. "I said, 'Yeah, I want to do this.' " When you play a woman in a marriage without sex, you end up talking about sex. Walker, whose husband is FX exec John Landgraf, acknowledges "Tell Me" "is a hard show to watch because it brings up so much that we don't want to deal with."

Q: Have Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, once the darlings of Hollywood movies, decided not to make any more together? They have great chemistry.
Christopher Jordan, Dearborn Heights, Mich.
Hanks and Ryan have no plans to re-team. Hanks, 51, hasn't been romancing anyone on screen, let alone Ryan, 45. His "Charlie Wilson's War," which opens Dec. 25, co-stars Julia Roberts but isn't a romance. Ryan's last hit was "You've Got Mail" in 1998, but she hopes for a comeback in a remake of "The Women."

"Inside Edition's," Deborah Norville thinks that it's time for the Katie Couric critics to stop. CBS's hype before Couric's debut as "CBS Evening News" anchor resulted in unrealistic expectations, she says. And she knows about that: She followed Jane Pauley on NBC's "Today" and fought a similar "unwinnable battle." Norville, 49, a married mom of three, also writes books. Her fourth, "Thank You Power: Making the Science of Gratitude Work for You," is just out. She describes it as "the real secret to the life you want." I hope she gives a copy to Katie.

Q:What new personal or career updates do you have on Vincent D'Onofrio?
Les Iwrey, Farmington Hills, Mich.
Look for D'Onofrio's "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" on USA Network this season. It debuted earlier this month. Also, know that he's in it for the long haul. "I don't have any plans to go anywhere," he says. He made two movies last summer simultaneously because one was shot on Staten Island and the other in Brooklyn, N.Y. D'Onofrio, 48, lives in New York, where his family is. He loves his family: He says "hi" to his mom when he's on "The View," which he only agrees to appear on because it's her favorite show. He has a wife and two kids and laughs when I ask if his priorities have changed since he was a young actor. Now it's about "keeping the bills paid. It's what I live for."

Dierks Bentley, 31, will bring his A game to Big State Festival in Bryan-College Station, Texas, this weekend. So will Tim McGraw, Lyle Lovett and others performing there. "Texas is a tough crowd because they get a lot of great music down there," Bentley says, meaning that performers put on their best show. His comes without the bells and whistles of acts like McGraw's. So he jumps into the crowd. "If I can't have a video screen, I'll bring my stage to you," he says. Besides, country fans are good people. "I have no fear of my audience. There's so much love out there." But sometimes he returns to the stage without a few things -- "pieces of my shirt, a bracelet, a ring ..."

When Judith Light, 58, took a "two or three episode" supporting part in ABC's "Ugly Betty" last season, she probably didn't expect that it would turn into an Emmy nod. In fact, her character, alcoholic and accused murderer Claire Meade, is about the only one besides Betty who didn't get to dress in high fashion. It's no wonder that Claire broke out of prison and started this season on the lam. Light says she thinks Betty strikes a chord with audiences. "Around the world, [people] look at Betty and say, 'Oh my god, I'm like her.' Far from wanting to imitate the perfect images in the fashion magazines, people are really longing to be themselves and be loved for that."
