Who's News

Q: Is Gloria Estefan going to play the casino circuit anytime soon?
Joleen Decelles, Norwich, Conn.

I'm afraid not. But you can listen to her new CD, "90 Millas," out last month. Estefan, 50, tells me she loves all the artists on it with her: It's a return to Cuban rhythms she loves. "Like any creative project, you start with an idea, but you have to let it take its own direction," she says. Next up? "I have always wanted to do another Christmas album," she says immediately. "And a lullaby album for kids."

Q: What is Don Imus doing now? Will he get another show?
D. Dixon, Tulsa

There's no new show imminent. After being fired from WFAN in April, the shock jock, 67, couldn't return to radio because of contract disputes with CBS. But in August he settled out of court and is free to do another show elsewhere.

If Morgan Freeman, 70, is correct about how work affects life, he'll be around forever. "Busyness might have something to do with longevity," he says. Here are all the projects he has been working on:

"Feast of Love," out now, "about love and its many manifestations."
"Gone Baby Gone," Ben Affleck's directing debut. "It was an interesting journey."
"The Bucket List," with Jack Nicholson, opens Dec. 21. "The experience was everything I thought it would be."
"Wanted," with Angelina Jolie. "I head up a fraternity of assassins. All I do is talk."
"The Dark Knight," a sequel to "Batman Begins," shooting now. "This time, my character figures more in the plot."

George Carlin marks his 50th anniversary in showbiz this year with a new DVD box set, "George Carlin: All My Stuff." Carlin says his ideas and artistry have matured, but at 70, his contempt for the claptrap of U.S. culture remains well intact. "All you have to do is look at the choices consumers make to know that [American culture] is a worthless endeavor. I used to say, 'When you're born in the world, you're given a ticket to the freak show. When you're born in America, you're given a front-row seat.' "

Q: Where has Marisa Tomei been? I like that she doesn't always have to play the lead to show her talent.
Renee Solano-Szuba Westland, Mich.

Tomei, 42, never became a lead actress but has been working regularly, playing juicy supporting parts. She has a movie coming out this month, Before the "Devil Knows You're Dead," which stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, Albert Finney and Ethan Hawke.

Q: I saw Piper Perabo guest star on "House" as a possible love interest for Hugh Laurie. Will she be back? What is she working on?
Joe Rzotkiewicz, Palmerton, Pa.

The producers loved her character and writers left the door open to romance, but at press time no decision had been made about her future on "House." She has four new films, most notable, Disney's "South of the Border." Perabo, 30, plays a Beverly Hills woman who loses her Chihuahua, voiced by Drew Barrymore.

Rachel Zoe, stylist to beauties like Cameron Diaz and Keira Knightley, dishes on the ingredients to a glamorous life in her new book, "Style A to Zoe." Here's Zoe, 36, on:

-- The hardest parts of her job. "I never take vacations. Your quality time in your life is kind of gone."
-- Heroes. "Warren Buffett is one of my idols. I watched a special on him and was blown away."
-- Charges that she makes clients stay pin-thin. "I have about 10 clients who are anywhere from size 8 to 12. I probably have more clients that are standard average size at this point than size 0."
-- Studying sociology and psychology in college. "I think subconsciously it has [helped me as a stylist]."
-- Other interests. "I'm obsessed with art. I'm not as knowledgeable as my parents are, but I love the '60s-, '70s-inspired art."
