THE GOLDEN GLOBES
Because of the strike by the Writers Guild of America, the Golden Globes award ceremony was canceled three weeks after the following special report went to press. Instead, NBC planned a press conference to announce the winners.

Tina Fey, nominated for a Golden Globe as lead actress in a comedy, is a current savior of sitcoms. While shows like "The Office" seem to be losing creative steam, "30 Rock" is picking it up, thanks to guests such as Jerry Seinfeld and Edie Falco. Fey, 37, who writes the show, says Ben Affleck tops her wish list of guests. As she told MSNBC: "Often, we're in the writers' room and say, 'We should try to get Affleck to do this!' -- kind of forgetting he is a movie star and busy making movies."

Has Globe nominee Johnny Depp married his longtime girlfriend, Vanessa Paradis, yet?
Amanda Brown, Fort Collins, Colo.
No, but the couple act married and are the parents of two young children. Depp, 44, has said he was scared to take on the singing in the film "Sweeney Todd," but he got through it with the help of Paradis, who is a singer and actress. He even played a demo he recorded for Paradis before he played it for "Sweeney" director Tim Burton.

"Access Hollywood's" Billy Bush says the Golden Globes and Oscars are his favorite award shows. At the Oscars, "it's so intensely glamorous ... it's mind-boggling." As for the Globes, "the talent is looser at the Golden Globes. It's all about the wine on the table, baby. That wine on the table leads to some great moments." Bush, 36, has no worries about what to wear, although a diamond tie ring he wore at the Emmys -- placed just below the knot -- caused quite a stir. We may see that accessory again at this year's Globes, on him or other celebs.

I love Sally Field in "Brothers & Sisters." I've seen her in a TV ad playing with grandchildren. Does she have children?
Maddy Minkoff, Hicksville, N.Y.
Field, 61, who is nominated for a Golden Globe for her role as a mother of five, has two sons from her first marriage to high school sweetheart Steven Craig and a son with her second husband, film producer Alan Greisman. She now has two grand-daughters and a grandson. She delights in them and, she once told me, relishes chances to babysit.

I saw Ellen Page in "Juno," and I think she may be the next big star.
Terri Gioga, Colorado Springs, Colo.
I agree, Terri. Page, from Halifax, Nova Scotia, started acting as a kid; her parents, she tells us, "never pushed me, yet they gave me a tremendous amount of independence." Page plays 16, but -- at 20 and 5-foot-1 -- could pass for 12. "I'm a total shrimp, which makes me look younger," she says. "I'll be able to stay in that area longer, which is good, because there's more competition in your 20s."

The beautiful Cate Blanchett, 38, looks and sounds so much like the young Bob Dylan in "I'm Not There" that it's eerie. And she makes it sound as if performing the Globe-nominated role was easy. "Well, I'm kind of gender-loose," Blanchett told a New York City magazine. "And in the era that I'm playing him, there were a lot of effeminate aesthetics going on. Look at the hairdos!" Look at her also in the film "Elizabeth: The Golden Age," for which she earned a nomination for best actress.

Next up: Screen Actors Guild Awards. The show airs on TNT and TBS on Jan. 27, but an annual auction to benefit the SAG Foundation is up on eBay now. Go to sagawards.org/auction to bid on bleacher seats, movie memorabilia and more. It all benefits foundation programs to promote child literacy and help SAG members in distress.
