Smells like team spirit

Forget team decals and throwback jerseys. As the NBA gears up for an exciting two months of playoff action, check out these ultimate fan packages.

By Reed Tucker

Watching the game from the sidelines is for suckers. Today's basketball fans want to get close enough to the action to smell the sweat and coach Pat Riley's pomade. And thanks to a slew of high-end specialty packages from the teams, they can. All you need are deep pockets and a very forgiving spouse.

New York Knicks -- Play at the Garden -- $30,000
If your hoop skills are too massive to be contained by the local YMCA gym, grab some friends and play pickup onthe floor of the legendary Madison Square Garden. Former Knicks players like John Starks and Walt Frazier will even serve as coaches, and referees will be on hand to call the action. Just try to keep a lid on jokes about how your squad could outplay the actual Knicks.
Why it's cool:
It's a chance to throw up sweet jumpers (and your share of air balls) on the same floor where Patrick Ewing roamed.

Dallas Mavericks -- Above the Rim 2008 Bentley Continental GT -- $320,000
You have to love your team a lot to spend as much on a customized car as you would on a house. But this tricked-out Bentley comes with the Mavs' logos emblazoned on the grill, trunk and on its custom 22-inch wheels. Theinterior is leather andfeatures an audio-video system inset in the headrests.
Why it's cool:
For true fans, this is the only way to ride around town. Just make sure Dallas is the town you're riding around, lest your car get egged.

New Jersey Nets -- Basketbowl -- $700 for an individual or $3,500 for up to six bowlers
Try challenging a group of professional athletes in a sport in which you might actually beat them. Once a year, the Nets host a bowling night, and for a price (the proceeds benefit charity), you can be there swilling drinks andtrying not to embarrass yourself by throwing a gutter ball when Vince Carter is looking.
Why it's cool:
Bowling is always cool. Apart from that, the entire roster takes part, so it's a chance to chat up stars like Richard Jefferson.

Minnesota Timberwolves -- Pre-game band performance -- Minimum purchase of 75 $15 tickets required
Minnesota will hand over the Target Center to your band and allow your special sound to ring out in the arena about an hour before tipoff. Just make sure to leave some groupies for the players.
Why it's cool:
We're sure your band's the next big thing, but for now, the only way it'll land an arena gig is to pay to get there.
