One of the top 10 hurdlers in the world, Candice Davis is a woman to watch. By the time you read this, she'll know if she's going to the Olympics in August, but if it isn't this year, it will be another. "Physically, I'm healthy; mentally, I'm healthy," she tells me as she prepares for the trials. "But you never know what's going to happen." Davis, 22, is a woman of faith, believing "God has a plan." Whether that plan is Beijing or later games, Davis knows what she wants to do with the platform that Olympic success brings: She'll become an advocate for others. That includes victims of oppression in places like Darfur and inner-city youth here at home.
Davis dreams of Olympic rings.

If you're wondering why you haven't seen much of Daryl Hannah lately, it's because she has placed her humanitarian efforts ahead of acting. "After 9/11, I had an evolution in my thinking," says Hannah, 47. She lives in the Rocky Mountains with a menagerie of adopted animals and has created a website, dhlovelife.com, that deals with environmental, humanitarian and animal welfare issues. In a video made for the site, she drinks a glass of biodiesel, a fuel made from recycled vegetable oil that also powers her car.

What is my TV crush Peter Krause up to?
Marianne Masopust, East Northport, N.Y.
He's my TV crush, too, Marianne -- I fell for him in ABC's "Sports Night" -- so I can tell you that as I write this, Krause, 43, is back on the set of "Dirty Sexy Money." Thank goodness. DSM is one of last season's launches that had just started when the writers' strike shut the show down. It could have been canceled. Lucky for us, Krause and company will return in September.

Got any inside info on Jon Tenney's and Kyra Sedgwick's characters on TNT's "The Closer?"
Maja Matkovic, Crnomelj, Slovenia
Tenney, 46, says the couple will wrangle over power -- creator James Duff's theme this season -- in their engagement. "At the end of last year, they introduced [my character's] history of a recovering alcoholic," Tenney says. "So now you have two addicts," his character, Fritz, who is trying to make the relationship work, the other, Sedgwick's workaholic Brenda, who is not.

"Dancing With the Stars" celeb and singer Mario also is a do-gooder -- and with good reason. The soft-spoken sweetheart of a young man grew up with a drug-addicted mom who recently got clean. He knows what drugs and alcohol do to a family, and he wants to help young people in similar situations. "I grew up feeling ashamed," he tells me. To that end, Mario, who next week wraps a 20-plus city tour promoting his recent album, Go, established his Mario Do Right Foundation with the idea of raising money to help youngsters who have nowhere to turn. "I just know nothing comes easy," says Mario, 21, about his career, but the same words apply to his life. "I still have to prove myself."

Is Sophia Myles, who played Beth in the now-canceled CBS series Moonlight, a new actress?
No. But she got her start in England, making her screen debut at 16 on British TV. She likes to vary her roles, but "vampires have been very kind to my career," says Myles, 28, who has appeared in a BBC version of "Dracula," as well as "Underworld" and its sequel. "The power of the vamp is huge." Unfortunately, it wasn't huge enough to get "Moonlight" a second season on CBS.

Enough about Miley Cyrus and her father, Billy Ray. What about her mother? Is he stealing all the glory?
Ann Sauers, Sidney, Ohio
Naw. He gets the press because he's out in front of "Hannah Montana." Her mom, Tish, has been Miley's personal manager since the tween star began acting at age 9. They've added professional management, but Tish remains her daughter's co-manager.
