Another option for the eco-friendly soda lover
Even though plastic soda bottles can be recycled, doing so still uses energy. So if you can consume less, that's the best green option. But if you are really fond of your soda, then make your own.
It takes only 30 seconds, says Gerard Meyer, president of Soda-Club USA (SodaClubUSA.com), a seller of make-your-own-pop kits that use a blender-size machine to carbonate water before you add your favorite flavor. A few of the eco-benefits:
Reduces packaging. Roughly three-quarters of all bottles are not recycled and wind up in landfills. Soda-making equipment is reusable.
Less fuel used is less pollution emitted. Shipping bottles full of liquid uses large amounts of gasoline, but making soda uses tap water -- no transport.
Saves energy. Soda-Club's equipment isn't powered by battery or electricity; it runs on compressed air in the machine.
Cut down on recyclables and pollution by making your own soda.
