Bike-friendly cities worth a visit

Consider renting a bike when you visit one of America's bike-friendly cities. The League of American Bicyclists has given 84 cities the title of Bicycle-Friendly Community. These are places "that have made impressive, measurable efforts to integrate bicyclists into the community," says League president Andy Clarke. What four award winners offer:

Portland, Ore., 272 miles of bike lanes, bike boulevards and paved trails.

Madison, Wis., scenic routes, including 17-mile Capital City State Trail.

Tucson, 475 miles of bike lanes in the metro area.

Minneapolis, 40 miles of bike lanes, 82 miles of off-road trails.
