Earth-friendly offices
We spend a good chunk of our time copying, printing and sitting in front of the computer. Here, a few tips to make your work more green:
Reduce waste. Every little bit counts, says Bryan Beckett, the co-founder of EcoGreenOffice. For example, request reusable cutlery and dishware in the employee kitchen. Recycle computers, fax machines and scanners at a location certified to recycle electronics; find one at Earth911.org.
Use laptop computers. They use up to 90% less energy than bulky desktop computers.
Think about ink. Look for refilled recycled cartridges (they cost 10% to 20% less) or ones with soy ink (an all-natural product from a renewable resource).
BUY 100% post-consumer (already used) recycled paper. Making it uses less energy and water, produces less greenhouse gas, requires fewer trees and reduces the amount of solid waste.
