Eat for a good cause
Dining out is an indulgence, but this week -- Sept. 21-28 -- part of your tab may help a hungry child. That's because Share Our Strength, a national group working to end childhood hunger, has corralled restaurants nationwide to donate a portion of sales to its cause. SOS estimates that every day, more than 12.6 million U.S. kids are at risk of going hungry.
The Great American Dine Out is supported by national chains, small mom-and-pops and even temples of haute cuisine. Legal Sea Foods is honoring its Beantown roots by donating all proceeds from Boston cream pie ($5.95) sales, so save room for dessert. Caribou Coffee is donating 1% of its total food sales, so grab a blueberry muffin or scone with your morning coffee. Joe's Crab Shack is selling a special $10 T-shirt, and a percentage of proceeds will be donated.
