Help from a Hollywood makeup pro on how to be a hit this Halloween

Powder puff What you'll need
o Makeup palette (choose the right one for your character)
o Translucent powder and powder puff
o Hair gel
o Thin makeup brush
o Black stipple sponge
o Foam sponge

Is your child planning to dress up as one of this year's popular characters? We consulted Gregory Nicotero, award-winning Hollywood makeup master and executive producer of the new Starz documentary, "Fantastic Flesh," for tips.

The Joker: Apply a base of white face paint using a foam sponge with bits ripped off. Use black or maroon makeup to draw up and elongate the corners of the mouth; apply a lighter color on top for a three-dimensional look. Darken around the eyes, using dark colors on the bottom and lighter ones on the top, again for that 3-D look. Add gel to hair for the stringy, greasy look.

Hannah Montana: The key here is light makeup (lip gloss, eye shadow) to keep her youthful look. It's all about the playful hairstyle, with either a wig or teased hair.

Aayla Secura: For the exotic look of this Jedi knight who appears in the new Star Wars TV cartoon, make the face tone medium blue. Paint the eyebrows to make them dramatic, and apply red or pink lipstick.

Indiana Jones: For a five o'clock shadow, get a black stipple sponge and dip into black, brown or gray makeup, then dab around the beard and mustache area to give an overall grayish tone. Then, take a bit of brown or black paint and stipple little dots to mimic stubble. Also, use bronzer and some dirt on the face to give the outdoor adventurer look.
