Earn holiday "gifts" from rewards cards
Just about every credit card company and retailer has cut back on the extras you get from cash-back, gas or travel rewards programs, says Justin McHenry at IndexCreditCards.com, a credit-card news site. But this holiday season isn't totally bereft of goodies from rewards programs -- plus, there's a great way to save when you dine out using your credit or debit card.
Earn double rewards points on every purchase you make with your Nordstrom store card through the end of 2008.
Buy gift cards at any Safeway store through Dec. 25 and get double the "PowerPump" gas rewards for every $100 you spend.
Fly Continental and charge the tickets to your Chase/Continental credit or debit card and the $15 bag fee on your first piece of luggage is waived.
Spend $499 or more at Office Depot using the Chase Worklife Rewards Visa through Dec. 24 and you won't have to make a payment until January 2010.
Register your credit or debit card with rewardsnetwork.com and automatically save up to 10% when you eat at one of 9,755 participating restaurants. Hit the $500 mark and VIP status will get you up to 15% off.
