Get presidential
The Jefferson Memorial is one of many free attractions in the city.

A new presidency has renewed interest in Washington, D.C., as a destination. The good news for travelers is that the lousy economy means deals galore.
Weekend hotel rates are a bargain with Destination D.C.'s "Lincoln in Washington, D.C." packages (washington.org/lincolnindc). Details vary by hotel, but many of the deals include a late checkout and other special incentives. Rates start at $89 per night.
Stretch your sightseeing dollars by visiting the city's many free attractions. As Lincoln's bicentennial is this year, start with the Lincoln Memorial. Move on to the National Air and Space Museum or the Jefferson Memorial and finish with the daily 6 p.m. musical performance at the Kennedy Center. It might be classical, rock or jazz, but it's all free.
