Try a Harlem B&B
Want to avoid the hustle and bustle of Midtown Manhattan but remain close to all of its attractions? Consider staying uptown in a Harlem bed-and-breakfast. For the same money, B&Bs offer spacious rooms in period brownstones that are just a few subway stops from Midtown.
Mount Morris House: This five-bedroom B&B in the Mount Morris Park Historic District dates back to 1888 and has doubles starting at $150 per night (with a three-night minimum). Each room has a wood-burning fireplace, cable TV and WiFi.
Sugar Hill Harlem Inn: This restored 1906 home has four bedrooms and a suite, some with a fireplace, kitchen and deck. Each room is named after a legend, such as Ella Fitzgerald and Miles Davis. Doubles begin at $125 a night.
Jumel Terrace Books B&B: Nestled in Sugar Hill, the neighborhood once home to Duke Ellington and Count Basie, this Victorian house overlooks the 1765 Morris-Jumel Mansion. It has a 500-square-foot one-bedroom suite with a full kitchen, bathroom, sitting room and large bedroom that starts at $250 per night (double occupancy).
