Go eco in the city
Simplify life by living green.
The stressful hustle and bustle of city life could make anyone wish for a simpler one. Amy Minato, author of Siesta Lane, made this wish come true when she moved from busy Eugene, Ore., to a very rural community where she managed without amenities that many people can't seem to live without today: the Internet, TV and cellphones.
"It wasn't just about living green. It was about personal renewal," Minato says.
She tells us how greener living can improve the quality of your life.
Patience: It might take you longer to reach your destination, but walking and using public transportation will keep you fit and shrink your impact on the environment.
Resourcefulness: Experiment with different household items to discover new ways to reuse things instead of throwing them away.
Creativity: Entertain yourself at home, without all of those electronic gadgets. At her rural home, Minato wrote, drew, sang, danced, sewed and knitted to keep busy.
