Find a good babysitter
Do your research before hiring a babysitter
|
In the Internet age, finding a babysitter may seem as easy as jumping online and searching popular classified listings.
But parents must take extra care when using the vast World Wide Web to find a qualified person, says Shari Schroeder, president of an Arizona babysitter's agency.
Her search tips:
Ask candidates about previous jobs, why they enjoy working with children and what they would do in certain situations, such as trying to give an unruly child a bath.
Request a school transcript from teenage applicants.
Find out whether they have taken any child-care courses, such as those offered by the Red Cross.
Consider a background check, especially for candidates you find online, and check references.
