Green living meets fine living in many places that take the eco-friendly lifestyle to the next level.
"It is possible to live conscientiously and comfortably," says Jeremy Goldstein, developer of 73 North Market Street in Asheville, N.C., a high-end complex featuring garages specifically designed for fuel-efficient Smart cars.
Not everyone has the green to afford these condos (starting at $2.1 million), but here are some of Goldstein's tips for living a greener lifestyle:
Make energy efficiency a priority. Consider using solar panels, even if just to heat your water.
Save water. Adjust downspouts to collect water in a bin to use for gardening. Install low-flow fixtures, such as faucets and shower heads.
Invest in a fuel-efficient car. Trade in that gas-guzzling SUV for something smaller and more affordable. "Bigger is not always better," Goldstein says.
