Make better meat choices

Quick tip
Fall for great deals: Check retail circulars and newspapers for sales and coupons on these items, which tend to be discounted this month:

Halloween candy
Winter coats
Digital cameras
Bicycles
Pizza, pasta and wine
Crystal, china, glassware
Shrubs, garden supplies
Lawn mowers and grills

The next time you're shopping in the meat aisle, use these guidelines from the American Heart Association to choose lean varieties:

Beef: Sirloin, chuck, loin and round are leanest. Pick "choice" or "select" over "prime."

Pork: Choose loin chops or tenderloin.

Poultry: Select turkey and chicken over duck or goose to cut fat.

Avoid sweetbreads, liver and other organ meats, which are high in cholesterol.
