Sugar: Not always so nice

Quick tip
Did you know that some medications, including antibiotics, can discolor children's teeth? Be sure that your kids brush after each dose.

Americans ingest a little more than 22 teaspoons of sugar (added from processing or at the table) a day. That's about 350 calories! But they should be consuming less than half of that.

The American Heart Association recommends that calories from added sugar shouldn't exceed 100 for women or 150 for men. The main culprit? Sugary soft drinks. A 12-ounce can of regular soda contains about 130 calories, and many, if not all, are from sugar, so it's easy to see how the calories add up.
