Who's hot in Hollywood
Jackie Collins' 27th novel, which hits bookstores Tuesday, looks at life outside Hollywood. Collins, 72, says she's inspired by real-life events (she reads seven newspapers a day) but also gathers material firsthand. "I don't want to go to high-society events and listen to a lot of boring people talk about how they're having problems with their housekeeper," she says. "I want to get to the nitty-gritty and find out about real life." ... Stand-up comic Brandon T. Jackson, 25, plays a half-man, half-goat in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, in theaters Feb. 12. He jokes that when his father, a pastor in Detroit, saw the character's CGI goat legs, he thought his son was possessed. "Greek mythology is not a big deal to people from Detroit, but my parents are excited to see the movie, especially my mom," Jackson says. "She was the one who put on all the church plays when we were little."
Did Matthew Gray Gubler of Criminal Minds injure himself?
Roy Rady, Manitowoc, Wis.
The cane you've been seeing Gubler, 29, sport while playing Dr. Spencer Reid isn't for the CBS show. Last year, Gubler says, he was "overzealous on the dance floor" and severely injured his left knee. Luckily, Gubler's doctors were able to fix him up. "The injury was pretty legendary. It's going to go down in a textbook somewhere for sure."
What ever happened to Hannah Storm? She was a host on CBS' The Early Show.
Elizabeth Nimphius, Sturgeon Bay, Wis.
She has gone back to where she started: sports. Before joining The Early Show in 2002, Storm, 47, worked for NBC Sports for 10 years. In 2008, she joined ESPN, where she is a SportsCenter anchor. Storm, who has three daughters with her husband, sportscaster Dan Hicks, also appears in the upcoming romantic comedy Valentine's Day.
Sam Worthington plays a paraplegic Marine in the movie Avatar. Is he really handicapped or was this movie magic?
Carol Carlson, Juneau, Alaska
No. When you see his character's unclothed legs, they're actually prosthetics. Worthington's legs were wrapped in green under the wheelchair and digitally removed later. The Australian actor, 33, who's an avid surfer, next plays the brawny demigod Perseus in Clash of the Titans, which arrives in theaters March 26.
Does Peter Graves provide the voice-over for the NFL disclaimer played during games?
Don Straka, Goodyear, Ariz.
That may sound like the star of Mission: Impossible and Airplane!, but those disclaimers are done by voice-over artist Earl Mann. You have a better chance of hearing Graves, 83, the next time you're flying: The actor filmed videos for AirTran Airways to promote the company's in-flight Wi-Fi.
