Resorts offer deep discounts on lodging and lift tickets.

If you want to save big on the slopes, think spring. Starting in about mid-March, many resorts offer their deepest discounts.

A few deals:

Book three nights' lodging in Steamboat Springs, Colo., from April 4 to 11 through Steamboat Central Reservations and you'll get free lift tickets.

The Park City (Utah) Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau is offering a Ski Free, Stay Free deal valid March 28 to April 11. Buy a four-night lodging package and you'll receive a fifth night free, plus a free day of resort skiing at Park City, Deer Valley or The Canyons.

Whistler in Vancouver, British Columbia, is hosting Olympic events this month, but if you can wait until March, you'll get a fifth night of lodging and fourth day of skiing free through April 18. Packages start at $126.
