Who's hot in Hollywood
Emilie de Ravin plays a student in the romantic drama Remember Me opposite Robert Pattinson, but the Australian actress, 28, always dreamed of being a ballerina. De Ravin, now starring in the last season of Lost, says she never thought about the longevity of ballet as a profession while attending performing arts schools as a child: “Now I look at friends who are still dancing, and they’re like, ‘OK, what am I going to do next?’ You can’t keep going physically.” . . . Lucy Lawless gained worldwide fame as a leather-clad Amazon in Xena: Warrior Princess. Now the actress, 41, finds herself in revealing wisps of fabric as Lucretia on the Starz series Spartacus: Blood and Sand. “I appreciate modern clothing like nobody else,” Lawless says with a laugh. She’s “not a lunatic body freak,” although the prospect of having to bare some skin onscreen “does make you a little more inclined to put down the doughnut. ”
Who does the new voice-over for the CBS Evening News? I think it sounds like Denzel Washington, but my husband says there's no way.
K. Ruth, Milaca, Minn.
Your husband is right. That voice belongs to Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman, who has plenty of experience as a voice of authority. (He has played God twice.) Legendary former anchor Walter Cronkite, who died July 17 at age 92, had been the voice since anchor Katie Couric took over in 2006.
Will either V or Kings be returning to TV?
Richard Geltzer, Wethersfield, Conn.
Good news and bad news. The sci-fi update of the 1980s drama V, starring Scott Wolf and Morena Baccarin, returns to ABC with new episodes on March 30. Why is it popular? Sci-fi fans “have a lot to chew on, but at the same time, it's really driven by characters and big ideas,” says Wolf, who plays news anchor Chad Decker. As for Kings, it will not return to NBC.
Can you tell me the name of the gentleman who plays Angela's father on Bones?
Sue Lyles, Pearl, Miss.
That sharp-dressed man is none other than Billy Gibbons of bearded band ZZ Top. Within the story line of the Fox show, forensic artist Angela Montenegro is the daughter of the rocker. Gibbons, who still tours with ZZ Top, has appeared in a few episodes. He also has made appearances on King of the Hill and Yes, Dear. Bones' Angela, played by Irish-Chinese-American actress Michaela Conlin, works at the Jeffersonian Institute, where forensic anthropologist Temperance “Bones” Brennan (Emily Deschanel) leads a team that helps the FBI identify human remains.
