Of all the seasons, autumn probably has the strongest sensory connection to color, says David Bromstad, designer and host of the HGTV series Color Splash: Miami. It's impossible not to think of the traditional rusty reds, burnt oranges and ocher yellows associated with the season, even for those who don't live where leaves turn vibrant colors as September rolls around.
As fall follows summer, color trends in home design closely follow those on the fashion runways. So you can expect that the hottest fall colors for your home will be vibrant lemon and curry yellows, all shades of purple, dusty pinks, turquoise and grays.
The potential for exciting combinations pleases Bromstad, who, as regular viewers know, likes non-traditional color palettes. On his show, he takes cues from Miami's architecture and subtropical color personality to redesign rooms and outdoor spaces.
Looking for something more neutral? Grays, in shades of dove, cloud and charcoal, will abound. Or try green, the new neutral, Bromstad says. Muted greens, on their own or set off by pops of purple, pink, blue or yellow, create an up-to-date, comfortable elegance that you and your guests will enjoy.
