It's time to pack away those chunky knit sweaters, Ugg boots and fuzzy mittens in exchange for light, colorful pieces. With each season comes trendy "classics" — the go-to items that every woman should have in her closet. Amy Goodman, author of Wear This, Toss That!, offers these affordable spring must-haves:

Wrap shirts. The "universally flattering" top style looks great in many different colors and fabrics, including silk, rayon and cotton blends. Goodman advises looking for ones with "chic side ties that lie flat and won't bulk the waist."

Bristols 6. It's hem tape for denim. Instantly turn an ordinary pair of jeans into warm-weather-ready cropped pants or capris with this versatile, double-stick accessory ($12, bristols6.com). The no-iron, no-cut tape allows you to temporarily hike up your jeans to show off sexy sandals or peep-toe pumps.

Footzy Rolls. On your lunch break, enjoy the spring sunshine while taking a refreshing walk — free of foot pain. Grab a pair of Footzy Rolls ($25, footzyrolls.com), rollable ballet flats that can easily fit inside a purse or briefcase. For those warmer days, check out Footzy Flops, the shoes' flip-flop equivalent ($20).

A-line dresses. Try the classic silhouette in a solid, bold color that minimizes hips and extends the legs. Goodman says the cut works on all body types, smoothing over large curves and creating them on boyish frames.
