Donna Schuster of Neenah, Wis., came up with a great way to instill good manners in her kids: Whenever they received money as a gift, it was pinned to a bulletin board until a thank-you note was written. The children learned to write them quickly, and now, as adults, they still write their thanks.

Over in Brownsburg, Ind., Lu Storms established “even and odd” days to get her two daughters involved and organized. Whichever day it was, it was one child's day to clean out the dishwasher, answer the phone, let the dogs out, choose the cereal, the movie, and so on.
