On Aug. 19, Alba goes undercover in the movie sequel Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 4D. She plays a retired spy who is called back into action and becomes a better mom because she’s true to herself. It’s a lesson that Alba, who is married to producer Cash Warren, hopes applies to herself, as well. We checked in with her to ask about ...
Changing priorities.
“After I had Honor, my priorities completely changed. My family became first, and my career quickly became secondary.”
... and diapers.
“Cash is a super-hands-on dad. He gets Honor dressed, makes breakfast, puts her down for her nap, reads her bedtime stories. When she was a baby and he was home, I didn’t change one diaper.”
Staying in shape.
“My belly is definitely bigger this time. For me, staying fit is just so I can have an easier birth. When I’m pregnant, I try to do a half-hour of movement a day — walking, bike, treadmill — and prenatal yoga four times a week.”
Getting back in shape.
“I had a job lined up three months after I had Honor, and getting ready wasn’t fun. I had to work out really hard, eat a restricted diet and breast-feed like crazy. It took me a year to get within 7 pounds of my regular weight. This next year is going to be a doozy.”
Being a hot mama.
“Mothers can be sexy. I think my husband still fancies me. Men fancy their wives when they’re pregnant. For a man, there’s nothing more gratifying than knowing that there’s a baby growing inside your lady that you helped make.”
... and a strict mama.
“I’m much stricter than my mom was. I’m more diligent about what she watches and what she eats. I keep my daughter on a schedule.
“My parents were 19 when they had me, and they did the best they could. I could use some of my mom’s easygoing-ness. She’s much more relaxed just as a person. I’m more organized and uptight.”
Turning 30.
“What seemed like a big deal isn’t any more. I started acting when I was 12. It was my identity, my whole world. I had nothing to balance it with.”
What really glitters.
“My engagement ring and studs are my treasures, and the rest is costume jewelry. I love borrowing stuff, but it’s too stressful to have it at my house.”
Living the good life.
“My grandmother was constantly serving the kids and the men. But that was a different time. I definitely like being taken care of and pampered.”
