An analogy is the relationship of one item or set of items to another set. The key to solving them is to look for the most specific characteristic that makes things similar. Here’s an example:
White : Black : : Day : ?

This is read White is to Black as Day is to ? … and the answer is Night. In this case, the analogy was looking for opposites. However, some aren’t that easy or clear. Here’s another example:

Part : Trap : : Loop : ?

The answer is pool. “Part” spelled backward is “trap”. “Loop” spelled backward is “pool.” Try one more.

6 : 36 : : 7 : ?

The answer is 49. 6 x 6 = 36 and 7 x 7 = 49.
