Tights make chilly winter days instantly cozy. Jenn Falik, a fashion stylist in New York City, explains how get a leg up on the season’s best styles for any age.
If you’re in your 30s ...
Wear: Opaque shades of neon brights to jewel tones; sheer black with seams; black, lacy patterns; checked, paisley or animal prints.
Keep in mind: Patterns get stretched out in the knees and thighs, so if you’d rather not draw attention to certain parts of your legs, choose the print wisely.
If you’re in your 40s ...
Wear: Opaque primary colors and jewel tones; black sheer with seams; solid colors with texture.
Keep in mind: Textures like cable-knit, herringbone, boucleor one-tone stripes give your outfits oomph. Plus, Falik says, “a textured pattern can make your legs look longer and leaner.”
If you’re in your 50s and 60s ...
Wear: Opaque and textures in classic neutrals: black, gray, chocolate brown, navy and eggplant.
Keep in mind: Quality matters. Inexpensive tights tend to stretch, sag and crepe at the knees. “It’s worth splurging on tights that will last and always make your legs look flattering,” Falik says.
