If you have more than one of something and want to add on, you’re a collector.
These days, collectors have moved beyond stamp books and coin displays. “Collectibles are becoming more and more diverse,” says Meredith Barnett of eBay’s digital magazine, The Inside Source. Animal figurines are hot, as are vintage plates and cups. “More and more people are collecting by color rather than category — all-white collections are a popular trend right now.”
A good collectible is anything that can be bought in multiples; anything limited in quantity; or anything with sentimental, historical or pop culture value. “To a certain extent, what you collect is who you are,” Barnett says. “You use it as a way to distinguish yourself from your peers.”
Display your wares in a simple, sophisticated way: Arrange items of similar shapes or sizes, like teacups, together on a bookshelf; line a mantelpiece with different-shaped vases or plates sitting vertically in stands.
