Kristin Chenoweth tells us she’s always looking for diverse paths in her career, like her new ABC TV series, GCB, or her recent country album. The actress, 43, shares her thoughts on her career choices, vices — and more.
She’s caffeinated. Coffee and Coke sustain her on the set, especially when she has to work overnight. “A lot of the girls I’m working with are health nuts, and they’re like, ‘We got to get you off the Coca-Cola,’ and I’m like: ‘It’s my one vice. Just let me have it.’ ”
She’s a little bit country. The Broadway star grew up in Oklahoma and lived in Nashville. “I’ve never taken the obvious choice,” she says.
She’s a cheap date. “I don’t need fancy,” says Chenoweth, who is single. “I like chain-food restaurants and cheap chocolate ... sports and food.”
She’s low-maintenance. “I take about 20 minutes to get ready,” including curling her eyelashes. “I’ve had boyfriends say to me I can get ready faster than them.”
Guilty pleasure: “My TV,” she declares. This “night owl with insomnia” watches 48 Hours Mystery, American Justice, Dance Moms, anything on Bravo and Hillbilly Handfishin’.
Secret crush: Simon Pegg. “There are certain actors that you get talent crushes on. I think he’s so genius, and bright and funny. I can’t tell anymore if it’s crush or just talent. ”
YouTube addict: Her favorites include: Scarlet Takes A Tumble!, Charlie Bit Me, Charlie Takes a Tumble and The World’s Biggest Zit. “I have to watch, there’s something wrong with me. I tried to show it to the girls [on set] and they were gagging and I think it’s fascinating.”
Must have items: Her neck brace [she has two herniated disks]; Tiger Balm and ChapStick.
Must have gadget: iPad. “There’s a reason Oprah made it her special thing one year,” says Chenoweth.
Good Christian Belles: “Instead of making fun of [people of faith], we’re sort of having fun with [it]. I’m obviously well versed in the Bible. I grew up in church. I know this character very well, she’s sort of an amalgamation of women I knew growing up. She stirs it up and then prays for everybody.”
Walk this way: While Chenoweth likes her cardio and weights at the gym, she says, “walking is so underrated.”
Time out: “I’m just one of those, ‘I’ll sleep when I’m dead [people],” says Chenoweth who will embark on a summer tour to promote her new album.
