Not everyone can look like five-time Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover model Elle Macpherson, who hosts TV’s new design competition, Fashion Star (Tuesdays, 10 p.m. ET/PT, NBC). But at least we can be inspired by her.

We asked Macpherson, 47, the divorced mother of two boys, 14 and 9 (their father is French financier Arpad Busson), to divulge her everyday “must-haves.”

In the bag: Like any busy woman, the Australian native stuffs plenty in her purse, though hers is often a pricey Hermès Jipsy: a BlackBerry, mints, Revlon lip gloss (she’s a company “global brand ambassador”), photos of her sons, a printout of their schedules, passport, change purse for meter money and disposable Wisp toothbrushes.

Must-have cocktail: “I haven’t had a drink in eight years,” she says.

Sweet treats: “We have a chocolate drawer. It’s the only sweet [my sons] have. We don’t eat cakes or hard white sugars.”

Workout: Surfing. “I prefer to do a sport. The boys and I play polo and go twice a week to play together during polo season.”

For her sons: It’s sunflower seeds and papaya or “papaw” ointment popular in Australia for when Arpad Flynn or Aurelius Cy “get a boo-boo.”

Guilty pleasure: “I don’t believe in guilty pleasures. If you’re not enjoying what you’re doing, don’t do it.”

Online Only: Five more of Elle's favorites

To sleep: “NeuroSleep, a great product with melatonin, magnesium, selenium. I have some of that before I go to bed, it works wonders. [On a plane] I have an eye mask and headphones on my ears; at home my youngest son sleeps with a sleeping mask with frogs all over in it, which he loves.”

To wear: “Every kind of blue jean” including Diesel, Met, Made in Heaven; James Perse T-shirts; surfer cables.

Website to shop: Macpherson shops for her food daily at the markets and says she’s not a big clothing shopper. She turns to iTunes “more than anything else.”

Music on her iPod: Macpherson’s iPod is a mix of her music — dance music, Cascada, Fleetwood Mac and other ’70s favorites, Eddie Vedder, Adele (“a chick thing”) and her sons’ “progressive” music.

In the car: “Water, lots of water, mints. Claritin for allergies; I have a son whose allergic to things.”
